Saskia Gast
Master’s student
Research & Curriculum
Saskia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Groningen University, where she developed experience in laboratory research as well as gaining in-depth knowledge of pharmaceuticals. During her Bachelor’s project in Structural Biology at the Department of Drug Design, she studied the molecular interactions of potential inhibitors with a target ligand in the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite, aiming to identify new drug candidates. There, her passion for research was confirmed, leading her to pursue a Master’s degree in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences at Leiden University.
As part of her Master’s program, she is conducting research within the Division of BioTherapeutics at the LUMC, working in the vascular research group led by Dr. M.R. de Vries and Prof. Dr. Quax. Her project, in collaboration with Eduard de Winter, focuses on investigating the processes involved in vascular remodeling following arteriovenous fistula creation in murine models, as well as exploring potential therapeutic interventions.
