Julie obtained her bachelor’s diploma in Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College Roosevelt in Middelburg, an English-speaking International Honors College of Utrecht University. She majored in Biomedical Sciences and Life Sciences and completed a minor in musicology. During her time there, she developed a keen interest in molecular and cellular biology. Her bachelor’s thesis consisted of writing a systematic review on anthropometric measuring methods in pediatric patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, conducted in collaboration with the Wilhelmina pediatric hospital in Utrecht.
Currently, she is furthering her studies at Leiden University, pursuing a research master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences. Julie is interning at the vascular research group led by Prof. Dr. P.H.A. Quax and Dr. M.R. de Vries. In this role, she is exploring the effect of BMOV, a vanadium compound, on microvascular endothelial function, as well as investigating the effects of various cannabis compounds on inflammation in endothelial cells.
